All original watercolors are painted with Holbein and Winsor & Newton professional artist watercolors on 300 lb Arches Rag. That means the “paper” is not really paper, not made from wood pulp but from cotton. Also, the 300 lb refers to what 1,000 of these cotton rag “papers” weigh together.
Each painting involves 2 weeks (small) to 2 months (x-large) from drawing to finished painting. I immerse myself deeply into each one, savoring the time and focus the painting needs. I couldn’t paint any other way or “faster” because then I wouldn’t be honoring my unique rhythm. I like to think that they are like meandering down a path, stopping to smell the purple roses or sit in the dappled sun and shade on a weathered bench. I am also very comfortable that they are not like careening down a ski slope or strapped into a roller-coaster for thrills.
